I ran across an article the other day titled "Ten Pointers for New Pastors" written by Joe McKeever. After reading this article, I found it sound advice for seasoned pastors also. I have been in the ministry for 22 years and I found this to be refreshing to say the least.
Below are the "Ten Pointers." If you would like to read the entire article click here.
- Remember to say 'we' and 'our,' not 'I' and 'my.'
- Never claim any authority as the pastor.
- Learn to listen.
- Try not to over-talk.
- With the office staff, always conduct yourself with quietness and strength.
- Never put anything negative in a letter; deal with it personally.
- Lower your expectations about your congregation.
- Nothing is more important than staying close to the Lord.
- Know how much of church stuff to keep from your wife.
- Protect your sermon study time.
