If you have read the "Purpose Driven Life" book written by Pastor Rick Warren, then you know that he says that every Christian should have a "ministry in the church" and a "mission in the world." I agree completely. But let me share with you a couple of temptations we fall in to when it comes to our ministries.
There are two temptations that we all fall for from time to time. I would like to comment on these and get your feedback...
1) COMPARING YOUR MINISTRY WITH OTHERS
Have you ever suffered from this? I mean, you look around at other ministries and you compare them with your ministry. You know what I mean, you look at brother so-in-so's church that began three years after yours and he is running 2000 more in attendance. Or, you see how other people are responding to a particular sister so-in-so's ministry and wonder if your ministry is having any affect on people at all!
2) CONFORMING TO THE EXPECTATIONS OF OTHERS.
Have you ever felt the pressure from others to lead your ministry in the way(s) they feel you ought to lead it? Wow! What pressure others put on us with their unrealistic expectations.
When we sense we have lost our joy of ministry, serving Christ and others, we may need to see if we have fallen to either of these two temptations. They both are joy killers! God has a ministry for just you to fulfill. Discover your unique calling and SHAPE and give the rest of your life serving in that ministry.
